The Colombo Fort Magistrates court has issued an order that Rtd. Gen. MP Sarath Fonseka who is facing charges connected with the Hicorp money fraud be kept under military custody until July 12.
The Fort magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today ordered that General Fonseka be under the supervision of Prison officials.
However the lawyer of the retired General expressed concern that if Sarath Fonseka is under the supervision of Prison Officials his relatives would have difficulties in providing him with daily meals. The Fonseka’s lawyer further stated that transporting Fonseka in a Prison vehicle is threat to his safety.
After considering the facts the Magistrate ordered the Prison officials to take steps in regard to Fonseka’s meals and also that he be transported in a military vehicle.
