Will CBK contest again for Presidency?

With the amendment of the constitution being the much discussed topic, the return of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga into the Presidential fray has come up again as a talking point within the Colombo circles.
The present constitution stipulates a two term time frame for one person to hold the office of Executive President. Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga has already completed her two terms, albeit a couple of years less, as some might point out.
However, with move afoot for an amendment to the present constitution, which many believe would do away or increase the clause which deals with the number of terms one person could hold office, Mrs. Kumaratunga would technically be able to contest again.
Whether she would stand a chance against the incumbent is anybody’s guess and similarly, if the amendment bars former Presidents from contesting, it would not leave room for the reemergence of the former President, sources pointed out.
