Mob attacks Mattakkuliya police

July 3, 2010   11:10 pm

An angry mob attempted to attack the Mattakkuliya police late this evening. The reason for this agitation was the arrest of a youth from the area for possessing drugs, according to Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody.

SP Jayakody said that the arrested youth had broken the glass pane of a window at the Police Station and was rushed to hospital due to his self inflicted injuries.

Having heard of the incident, residents of the area from where the youth hailed had attempted to attack the Police Station with clubs, iron bars and stones.

However the mob attack had been brought under control within a few hours, according to police.
