The President has promised the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) that not a single security forces personnel will be sent before any international panel probing the happenings during the humanitarian operations in the north last year, said JNP member and former Parliamentarian Jayantha Samaraweera.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has also said that the government will protect the security forces and not bow to any conditions put forward by the United Nations, IMF or any other organization.

Further more, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has given an undertaking that a special panel comprising Sri Lankan intellectuals will be set up to carry out an internal probe into the allegations leveled at Sri Lanka during the final stages of the war against terrorism.

Minister Weerawansa gave up his fast unto death because of President Rajapaksa’s assurances, said Jayantha Samaraweera.
