July 12, 2010 10:42 am
The JVP has still not received
an invitation to discuss proposed constitutional amendments and even if such an
invitation is extended towards us we will decide on accepting it only after we
are assured of its intentions, General Secretary of the JVP, Tilvin Silva said
today.
He further said that the
constitution is not a conflict between political parties but a matter of the
public and that the public should know the main facts about the proposed
constitutional amendment.
He says that at least the
political parties representing the Parliament should be notified on the matter.
Tilvin also commented that only the opposition leader was called for
discussions with the President concerning the constitutional amendment while
the government is being criticized for not revealing the proposed
constitutional amendments.
