Constitutional amendments: Consensus in sight?

UPDATE: Agreement was reached on several issues between President and the United National Party (UNP) on the proposed amendments to the constitution. The main thrust has been on the creation of an Executive Prime Ministerial post, the President’s media unit stated.
On the government side, with President Mahinda Rajapaksa were Basil Rajapaksa, Dallas Alahapperuma, Maithripala Sirisena, Dinesh Gunawardena, Susil Premajayantha, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Prof. G.L. Peiris.
The UNP was represented by leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Karu Jayasuriya, Tissa Attanayake, Joseph Michael Perera, John Amaratunga, and Gamini Jayawickrema Perera.
The two sides agreed to appoint a committee to look into the possibilities of creating an Executive PM’s post and another to consider the reviving of the Independent Commissions according to the 17th Amendment.
