Paying wards to be established at state hospitals for Sri Lankans & foreigners

The Sri Lankan government has decided to establish paying wards at state hospitals across the island for both locals and foreigners.
The proposal, presented by Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Last year, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his budget proposals for the fiscal year 2023, proposed to re-implement the ‘paying wards system’ at government hospitals.
The Minister of Health tabled this proposal taking into account the fact that there are citizens who are willing to secure paying wards at state hospitals.
In a press release, the government said it has already provided ‘Agrahara’ health insurance cover for public sector employees and retirees.
