Wage hike for university lecturers – S. B.

There will be a wage increase for university lecturers from Rs. 50,000 up to Rs. 200,000 said S. B. Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education. He said this in response to a question JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake posed at the parliament today.

 

 

Anura Kumara pointed out that university lecturers are preparing for strikes asking for higher wages and that the government should take action to alleviate this issue. In response to this, S. B. Dissanayake said that there is to be a wage hike from Rs. 27,750 to Rs. 75,000 for junior lecturers and from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 200,000 for senior lecturers.

 

 

He further added that he appreciates the lecturers who choose to serve in Sri Lankainstead of opting to work overseas where they can get approximately seven or eight times the wage they earn in Sri Lanka.
