President tells one story to India, another to us, says Kiriella

The government is under pressure from several quarters. This is the reason for the government to hold discussions with the United National Party (UNP), said Kandy District Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella at a media briefing today (July 21).
If the Mahinda Rajapaksa government is genuinely interested in finding a permanent solution to the national question, it should fully implement the 13th Amendment to the constitution as well as the 17th Amendment which provides the establishment of the Independent Commissions, stated Mr. Kiriella.
These were the topics discussed during the pre-election period. Now the government is beating about the bush and talking of changes in the Executive Presidency, an Executive Prime Minister’s post, amendments to certain sections of the constitution and finding ways to make the President to contest more than twice for the highest post in the country, said the UNP Parliamentarian.
“President Mahinda tells one thing to India and a completely different thing to us. We are being very careful on these issues,” Lakshman Kiriella claimed during the briefing at the Opposition Leader’s office.
