Who says so? The players are not subjected to the same stringent scrutiny as the world´s leading trading floors. Books are often cooked to misrepresent profits and revenue.

comparison of the standard of a stock market based on its strength and power. Sri Lanka stock market is a very small one and you can´t compare with Nasdaq, Dow Jones , etc. This report is praising similar to a batsman having an average over 60% in 5 test and making the comparison with Sangakara and Tendulkar.

in 2005 they (unp) said SL = itiyopia; in 2007 they (unp) said SL = zimbabwe; in 2009 they (unp/jvp/UN) said SL = FS - failed state; in 2010may they (unp/jvp) said SL = greece; in 2011 they will (unp/jvp/) say SL = england... Any way we are going up in the ladder. Well done Sri Lanka...

To the idiots who are down playing this news: 1 - Do you expect a small country exchange to compete with the likes of Nasdaq, Dow and FTSE? Hitting the 5,000 mark is a landmark event for any exhange, so I applaud the CSE. 2 - Yes, they are the 2nd best, if you can´t find in the web, then you are probably browsing the wrong site, you won´t find this news in www.amden.com. 3 - CSE is the most technoligically advanced trading platform, it is being adopted by the LSE. The platform was built locally by Millenium IT. Nariya midhi kaawa.

I don´t know whether our stock exchange is really this good or whether this is due to some manipulation or due to the way statistics are represented. But anyway, the common people in Sri Lanka do not seem to gain or feel any benefit due to this...

This is extremely good news! What/ Who for or how it is going to benefit us, I don´t know. But this makes me happy no end! This is due to the foresight of the leaders of our nation. So Rajapakse´s; take a bow!

World stock markets have been classified on different criteri. Colombo is a small emerging market. It is in different basket not in the main markets in the world. It is best performing amoung the emarging market not in all market. Its like Air Lnaka is a good air line among the small one

And as always the UNP/JVP/Colombians plus other white worshipping losers hate such news and try and call them “all lies” –just as they did with the war. You can already see from some comments they are NOT happy with this. They want Sri Lanka to suffer (hence call for foreign interference and economic sanctions) to create hardships for the people to use said hardships and misery they try to create to propel themselves into power. It just smacks of political bankruptcy and failure when Opposition political parties, along with their grotesque hangers on and foul mouth supporters, hopes of seizing power rests solely on FOREIGNERS, FOREIGN PRESSURE and ISOLATION of the nation along with engineering HARDSHIPS and suffering on the people. You try to create difficult hard situations and misery for the people when there are none (or the ones that exist have been solved/action to solve them has been taken) just so you have something to use as a political platform to which you will “have the answers” (yet in the years you have been in power you have failed to solve any of the nations problems). Nothing is more disgusting than your kind and your attitudes. Only country where such people and parties exist and such things happen.

CSE has 237 companies listed and has a market Capitalisation of around US$ 7Billion. Dialog Telekom, JKH and SLT accounts to about 30% of this value. Bombay stock exchange is worth about 1 Trillion USD´s while London stock exchange is about 4 trillion. USA´s Dow Jones is roughly 12 Trillion USD. This is what we should be aiming at. We are nearly there. Like @Raju said the colombians are jealous; we are at least bigger than Hondurans.

Once again to the idiots who don´t understand stock exchange: 1 - Stock trading directly benefits the local economy, if you don´t understand this then don´t comment. 2 - Don´t comment on anything that you don´t know or don´t understand. If you don´t know, educate yourselves and then comment or don´t comment at all. If you have nothing to say, don´t say anything at all.

Some of weak Sri Lankans who things they are big still want to warship the so called big things from so called big nations. But they should realize one small thing. Good small things today can become bad big things tomorrow and good big things day after and the best and the biggest thing in future. All good big things have gone through this process. Well done CSE. YOU HAVE AT LEAST GIVEN A SOLID START TO A GREAT JOURNEY

Some people had browsed the net and unfortunately those poor idiots had not found any thing to prove that CSE is the world second performer. Therefore I would like to share the two links below with you all specially targeting those idiots. And those idiots should realize one thing. Performance and the size of the markets are two different concepts. Big markets could be weak performers and the small markets could be strong performers. If you will perform well for a long period then you could become a big as that will definitely contribute to increase the market capitalization. http://srilankastockpicks.blogspot.com/2010/01/colombo-stock-exchange-worlds-second.html http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-23/record-sri-lanka-stock-rise-to-boost-initial-share-sales-ndb-bank-says.html

As sri lankans we have this mindset that ´WE ARE THE BEST COUNTRY IN THIS WORLD.. WE HAVE THE RICHEST CULTURE IN THIS WORLD.. WE HAVE THE GREATEST HISTORY IN THE WORLD .. WE HAVE THE BEST BEACHES IN THE WORLD.. Now it´s good thing that we be proud about our selves. But when i start growing and start open my mind to rest of the world i noticed there are so many other countries in thiw world that is.. Just beautiful like our country... have nice beaches very clean and rich with attractions .. found out some greatest kings and histories in other countries that will not 2nd to my loving contry as well. Just put away the ego and open your intellectual mind and start look at this world/other countries, religions, cultures.

Subba: Your stupidity is at the helm. How does our local stock mkt´s performance help the economy? It is an exchange for profiting based on lunatic speculations not on real corporate performance. Our vast employment is in BOI ventures who not listed. So don´t go gaga over this dumb 2nd ranking.
