UNP condemns attack on ‘Siyatha’

July 30, 2010   03:50 pm

General Secretary of the United National Party, Tissa Attanayake today issued a statement saying that the UNP strongly condemns the attack on the Siyatha Television channel.

He also says that it can’t be a coincidence that a masked group was able to enter the premises of ‘Siyatha’ TV which is centered in the heart of Colombo without any obstructions what so ever and threaten and attack the staff of the company and even be able to pinpoint the important areas of the building and set them on fire using petrol bombs.

The General Secretary had further mentioned that over the past years journalists and media institutions have come under repeated attacks and some have even been kidnapped and murdered.

And that the present situation is such that even speaking or discussing as to who are behind these criminal acts is prohibited.
