One stranded Lankan female brought back, says SLBFE

One among the 41 Sri Lankan females stranded in Saudi Arabia has been flown back to the island, said the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). The female who had gone for employment was ill and brought back last evening.

She has been admitted to the Negombo Hospital where she is receiving treatment, SLBFE officials said. Five more females who were in her batch and reported to be ill, will be flown back to Sri Lanka next week, the SLBFE added.

The 41 Sri Lankan females who had been promised employment had flown to Saudi Arabia last April. However they had been unable to find employment when they had landed in the West Asian country. They had been reportedly accommodated at a detention centre in Saudi Arabia. The SLBFE had intervened to provide essential facilities to these stranded females.

The reason for the plight of these Sri Lankan would-be workers has been attributed to a difference of opinion between the local recruiting agency and its sponsors in Saudi Arabia.
