August 4, 2010 10:57 am
Speaking at the conclusion of a two day visit by a team of US government
officials, Assistant United States Trade Representative Michael Delaney said
that the US GSP review is independent of any other country’s review and is
solely based on labour rights issues.
He added that Sri Lanka would continue to receive the GSP
benefit while the review process is going on.
He also commented that the meetings held in Sri Lanka with
the Sri Lankan government, Trade Union leaders, company representatives have
been very productive and that he is looking forward to working with these
groups to sort out this issue.
