The government does not seem to be interested in several proposals put forwards by the United National Party (UNP) regarding the constitutional amendments. So it is pointless discussing them further, said UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake this morning (August 07).
Speaking to Adaderana during his tour of inspection of the Mattakkuliya area, the former Trade Minister said that where the UNP reforms were concerned, there were several proposals for reforms ant that they are being considered by the party leadership.
Asked about the recent behaviour of Deputy Minister Mervyn Silva who had allegedly tied a Samurdhi officer to a tree for failing to be present during the kick off of an anti-dengue campaign, Mr. Karunanayake said that reviving ancient punishment was not the solution. The cause for the lapse should be identified and rectified, he added.
“We have been telling this for the past so many years. But nobody seems to listen,” Ravi Karunanayake said.
