Six Lankan refugees picked up from Indian lodge

Nagercoil: Six Sri Lankan Tamil refugees were picked up from a lodge in Kanyakumari on Friday night.
According to police sources, based on a tip-off, a police team led by Superintendent of Police P. Sakthivel raided the lodge and picked up Reynard Johnson (20), Arul Pradap (24), Jeeva (30), Satheesh (22), Vimal Raj (25) and Jeyachandran (26), who belonged to different parts of Sri Lanka. They had come to Kanyakumari as tourists.
The police team also conducted a special raid in lodges to check the presence of outsiders in view of Independence Day celebration on August 15.
It was revealed during enquiry that Jeeva of Mathukam in Colombo came to Chennai in 2007, and was joined by the others later. Since they had proper documents to stay in India, they were released and sent back to Chennai.
However, the police have registered a case and are investigating. – (The Hindu)
