Of the Sri Lankan females who leave the island for employment, only some 36 per cent register themselves as being mothers leaving their children with guardians here, the chairperson of the Child Protection Authority (CPA) told Adaderana this evening.

This neglect of registration with the relevant authorities has made the collection of information difficult in case of an emergency, CPA chairperson Anoma Dissanayake said.

To circumvent this problem of non-registration, a special desk it to be set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport where the mothers could provide details of their offsprings, like under whose care they have been entrusted etc, said Ms. Dissanayake.

Such registration, if done genuinely, would assist the CPA authorities in case of any emergencies or complaints and would be of assistance to all parties concerned, said Anoma Dissanayake.
