VIDEO: Mervyn to commence new mission on errant Samurdhi officers

I haven’t stopped, I’m not hiding, claimed Former Dept. Minister Mervyn Silva who casually went about his daily rounds in Kelaniya today. Silva also stated that he has gotten to know of certain malpractices committed by Samurdhi officers and that he will track them down.

 

Mervyn’s deputy Minister Post was stripped by the President on August 10. His SLFP membership was cancelled and his Kelaniya SLFP organizer post was suspended pending a disciplinary inquiry into the alleged incident where he tied a Samurdhi officer to a tree for neglecting his duties.

 

Silva speaking at the ceremony organized for the carpeting of the Kelaniya, Pethiyagoda Wevella road claimed that he has been made aware of a loan racket by some Samurdhi officers. He added that certain officers take loans under the pretext of Samurdhi beneficiary and then lend them back to the Samurdhi beneficiaries at high interest.
