Employment agencies at sea with Qatar mission ruling

August 16, 2010   10:57 pm

Foreign employment agencies have been thrown into a quandry by a ruling of the Sri Lanka Mission in Qatar stipulating that only those between the ages of 25 to 45 be sent to that country as housmaids.

According to several foreign employment agencies in Sri Lanka, this new rule has not been ratified by either the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry or the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).

These agencies said that they have to now grapple with several problems arising out of this issue as there are thousands of females aged below 25 years who have been registered and almost all formalities finalised to proceed to Qatar.

They seek the intervention of relevant higher authorities to settle this issue as the SLBFE has also said it is helpless.
