Five nabbed waiting to go ‘down under’

Five persons awaiting a boat to sail illegally to Australia were nabbed by the Sri Lanka Navy while staying at a hotel in Marawila. The person believed to be the main suspect in this people smuggling ring was among this group, said Navy media spokesman Captain Athula Senarath.


Each person had paid as high as Rs. 600,000 to the ring leader for this illegal trip across the ocean. The Sri Lanka Navy Intelligence Unit had nabbed these suspects and are investigating firther into this incident, said Captain Senarath.
