A female who had allegedly taken money from several persons while posing off as an acquaintance of Minister Wimal Weerawansa has been taken into custody by the Mirihana Police, sources close to the Minister told Adaderana.

The 55 year old woman had been nabbed at her residence along the Boralesgamuwa-Dehiwala road with the aid of a female constable from the Mirihana Police acting as a decoy in the pretext of seeking a job. She had been caught in the act while she was accepting Rs. 25,000 from the decoy.

The woman had allegedly told prospective job seekers that she was a close friend of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing & Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa and that she could provide jobs at a price through the influence of the Minister.

The female ‘job agent’ had promised jobs from Sri Lanka Cricket, the Colombo Port and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to several prospective applicants and had allegedly charged Rs. 150,000 from each job seeker.

She had in her possession 18 job applications when she was arrested by Mirihana police. Further investigations are being conducted by the Special Crimes Investigation Unit.
