The operation to remove 18 nails and pins inserted into a Lankan maid from Matara who had been tortured while serving in Saudi Arabia has been successfully completed, said Kamburupitiya Government Hospital sources.

It is reported that 18 nails and pins were extracted from the body which contained a total of 23 nails and pins. Out of the extracted 13 are reported to be 2 inch nails and the rest pins.

The surgeons who conducted the operation today have remained 5 nails as they pose no threat to the woman. Removing the remaining nails would danger the life of the woman in concern and produce further complications.
