Lakshman Jayakody passes away

Former Minister Lakshman Jayakody passed away this evening after a brief illness, says Director of the National Hospital in Colombo.
Lakshman Jayakody (born 24 August 1930) was a Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) stalwart and was the Cabinet Minister of Buddhist Affairs in the Cabinet of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga government from 1994-2000. He was educated at Trinity College in Kandy and Ananda College in Colombo. Prior to his death Mr. Jayakody was a senior advisor to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He was also a onetime chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and is the father of western provincial councilor Chandana Jayakody.
