VIDEO: Mervin makes a comeback

Former Deputy Minister Mervin Silva said that he is not unduly worried about Ministerial positions. However he said that as he was still the organizer for the area and a Member of Parliament, he will continue to serve the people of Gampaha.

Addressing the Kelaniya Balamandalaya and Gampaha District Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) organizers at the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha office, Mr. Silva said that no one can destroy his Sinhala Buddhist principles and he will continue while respecting other religious groups as well.

Peliyagoda Municipal Council’s United National Party (UNP) Mayor Ananda Munasinghe obtained his SLFP membership from Mervin Silva during the meeting this morning (Sept. 5)

The controversial politician then invited the media to ask any questions saying he liked it when he was questioned by the media.

No questions were forthcoming from the media persons present for a while. However Adaderana correspondent Bennet Ferdinandezwanted Mr. Silva’s response to the Samurdhi official’s incident and whether he was still the organizer for the district and whether he expected to be reinstated as a minister or deputy in the near future, Mervin Silva said the correspondent had confused the first incident.

“I did not tie anyone to a tree. The Samurdhi official volunteered to be tied as an example to truant officials. Councillor Dias carried out his wishes. I ordered him to be untied and took the rope.  That is what happened,” answered a smiling Mervin Silva.

He added that he was still the SLFP organizer for the area and that if not, General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena would not have permitted him to convene a party meeting like this.

“I am the organizer, I am still an MP and if the government offers me a post I will accept. If it doesn’t I will continue to serve the people as best as I can. I am not unduly worried,” he added.

Singling out Adaderana, Mervin Silva said he respected the channel for the exposures of shortcomings on behalf of the people. However, recently the channel had made a mountain out of a molehill and had attacked him.

“I am not angry with any media. But I was worried when they stopped attacking me. I can know the reactions better when they attack me,” the Gampaha District Parliamentarian added.
