Student goes missing from Nugawela school, parents report ransom demand

A student from Nugawela Central College in the Kandy area has gone missing from last night, say police. The student had taken part in decorating the school for a function and had been reported missing from around 9.00 last night.


However, today a person had allegedly called the parents of the student and demanded rupees five million as ransom for the release of the missing student, said Central Province Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne. He added that three separate teams have been deployed to probe the incident.


However, sources said the missing student was a from the college hostel and had no need to go out during the night.
