September 12, 2010   11:14 am

The JVP claim that the Police have been repeatedly attempting to interrupt and obstruct the opening ceremony of the party’s Vavuniya District office since yesterday. Situated close to the Thandikulam railway station in Vavuniya the office is scheduled to be opened by the party’s General Secretary, Tilvin Silva later today.

The JVP Media Unit in a statement issued today claimed that a group identifying them selves as officers from Army Intelligence had questioned several party supporters who had been decorating the office late last night. It also states that the OIC of the Thandikulam Police had also arrived and had questioned and taken down details on everybody present at that time.

The owner of the building who had rented the office premises to the JVP has been ordered to be present at the police station today in order to give a statement, states JVP Media Unit. They further added that groups claiming to be police and army intelligence officers constantly keep threatening and scaring party supporters in the property.
