After being detained over several charges, former Sri Lankan Army chief Sarath Fonseka made his first appearance at the Supreme Court (SC) this morning to attend the hearing of the petition against the Presidential poll.

The SC earlier had ordered the Sri Lanka Army Commander to convene the Courts Martial against Parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka after 2.30 pm on days that Mr. Fonseka wishes to attend SC proceedings.

Sarath Fonseka, a candidate at the last Presidential Election, filed a petition challenging the election of Mahinda Rajapaksa as President, on January 10, 2010.
