The Democratic People’s Front of Mano Ganesan has decided to function as an independent opposition party in the future, says its General Secretary Dr. N. Kumaragurubaran.
After the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) left the United National Front (UNF), the main constituent of the alliance the United National Party (UNP) is now in a mess, added Dr. Kumaragurubaran. “They have formed several groups within the party,” he added.
Due to the instability within the UNP, the DPF has found it difficult to remain within the UNF and has decided to function independently, said the DPF General Secretary.
The decision will be confirmed after the party’s Working Committee meeting, said Dr. N. Kumaragurubaran.
However, the single DPF member and Mano Ganesan’s brother Prabha Ganesan who entered Parliament from the Colombo District through the UNF has already pledged his support to the government and the President.
