Rajapaksa Govt. is scared of truth being exposed, says JVP

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is scared of the truth being exposed as he is selling the country to the multi-national companies, said former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Samantha Vidyaratna.

The JVP affiliated All Ceylon Farmers Federation was to hold a seminar for farmers under the theme ‘Farmers are being dragged towards the guillotine’ at the Technical College auditorium in Dambulla. This was blocked by the government by ordering the authorities to lock the gates, claimed the JVP.

As the venue was denied them, they assembled outside the gates of the premises to protest the undemocratic action, said Mr. Vidyaratna.

Don’t the masses have the right to assemble? Don’t they have the liberty of speech? Has Mahinda Rajapaksa taken over all such rights? Were the questions Mr. Vidyaratna asked.

The government with its two-thirds majority was trying to intimidate the local farmers and is not allowing them to unite. Mahinda Rajapaksa will have to get off his throne when the truth is brought out soon, warned Samantha Vidyaratna.

“There is a massive threat to paddy cultivation in the country. We organized today’s seminar to tell the country and the farmers regarding this threat. The bills to sell water are to be brought back to Parliament. The acts to hand over lands of the farmers to multinational companies are being prepared. The sovereign right the farmers had for seeds is being taken away from them. This series of seminars was launched to expose these to the people. The All Ceylon Farmers Federation would never allow Mahinda rajapaksa to sell water, land and drag the farmers of the island towards the guillotine,” the former JVP Parliamentarian vowed.
