Protestor removed from steely perch by Fire Brigade

September 14, 2010   09:51 pm

The lone protestor atop the post near the Viharamahadevi Park was removed from his perch by the fire brigade a short while ago.

Police and Fire Brigade personnel were negotiating with the protestor from morning today. But he failed to present a clear cut demand for him to end his protest other than wanting President Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit the place for him to come down. If not, he threatened to jump from the post and commit suicide.

‘Rohitha’ as he identified himself, claimed that the IGP had pledged to convey the message to the President. He added that he is from the South. Asked when what he would do if the President does not speak to him personally, ‘Rohitha’ claimed that he refused to believe that would happen adding that he is certain that the President would heed his call.
