September 18, 2010   01:48 pm

The Road Development Authority (RDA) with the assistance of the police have begun demolishing about 20 unauthorised structures along Baseline Road in Dematagoda this morning, said police.

These structures are being demolished as they obstruct the road and the smooth flow of traffic and pedestrians. Owners of these dwellings are protesting against this move and claim that they are authorized structures, sources said.

Earlier, several such structures and dwellings were demolished in Slave Island, which raised strong protests from the area residents.
