The Courts Martial against Sarath Fonseka were only excuses by the establishment to give legal appearances to decisions already taken by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, accused DNA member Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
They are prepared to file an appeal with the Appeal Court on Monday (Sept. 20) against the first Court Martial sentence on Sarath Fonseka which stripped him of his medals and ranks, added Mr. Dissanayake.
They will also appeal against the second Court Martial decision which is pending the approval of the President, he added.
Addressing a media briefing this morning at the Solis Reception Hall at Koswatte in Nawala, the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Parliamentarian said this was against all norms of democracy and called on all political, civil and other organizations to protest the government move and the emerging dictatorship.
The military has issued a circular stating among other matters that former Army Commander and Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka’s name should be removed from all commemorations, medals, monuments and plaques. This is grossly unfair when seen against the sacrifices made by him to save this country from separatists, said Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
