Rituals, Ethics and Societal Stability seminar

The Seminar on Rituals, Ethics and Societal Stability organized by the SAARC Cultural Centre (SCC) Colombo, will commence on September 23rd, 24th and 25th. It will mark the first event on the Calendar of Activities for the Cultural Centre, for the year 2010.
The SAARC countries represent one of the most diverse regions of the world, rich in both tangible and intangible heritage. It has rich old traditions and indigenous knowledge which bring people together.
Most of the components of tangible traditional culture in the region have been given due attention in many forums throughout the world. But there have been very little discussion with regard to intangible cultural heritage of South Asian Countries.
It is with this in mind that the Seminar has been organized to look into rituals and ethics belonging to the intangible culture derived from ancestors of South Asian countries. All member states have been invited for the seminar, with eminent experts participating and presenting papers at the seminar.
The Hon Deputy Minister for External Affairs, as well as the Hon Minister for National Heritage and Cultural Affairs will grace the inaugural ceremony, while the keynote speaker for the 1st working session will be Prof. Sumanapala Galmangoda. Sri Lanka being host country for the seminar will be sending a delegation of some of the senior most professors and experts in the topic.
This seminar is the first event in a series of events, that have been organized by the Centre in an attempt to bring member states of the SAARC region together embracing culture and recognizing unity through diversity.
