Fishermen to land in Kachchativu on October 11 - Report

RAMANATHAPURAM: Leaders of fishermen associations have decided to land in Kachchativu on October 11 to force a solution to the continuing attacks by Lankan navy at mid sea.

Mechanized boat fishermen and leaders of their associations convened a meeting to discuss the continuing attacks on fishermen by Sri Lankan navy.

The consensus was that these atrocities had increased after Kachchativu was conceded to Sri Lanka.

They said that a solution has to be found to stop these attacks and their laying siege to Kachchativu would force a solution.

They hoped that this action would lead to the government inviting them for discussion to find a solution for the attacks on fishermen.

The leaders also expressed concern over the ban imposed by the government against collecting sea cucumbers. They decided to urge the government to lift the ban and withdraw the cases filed against persons for possessing the species.

Fishermen association leaders Bose, Devadas, Jesu, Emirites and others participated in the meeting. – (Express News Service)
