The Higher Education Ministry is planning to bring in about 10 international higher education institutes to the island. This will make Sri Lanka the hub of Asian higher education, Minister S.B. Dissanayake told Adaderana.
This will also attract more foreign exchange into the country. Initial steps have already been taken to introduce special legislations and also to set up two commissions to monitor, advise and set up the necessary syllabi for these institutions and also the ones already functioning in the island, said Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake. These will benefit the students immensely, he added.
Mr. Dissanayake added that he, along with Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena had met the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) which had raised issues claiming that the facilities provided to students at the Malabe Medical College were inadequate.
However, the GMOA officials do not seem to have visited the institution to gain first hand knowledge, the Minister said.
Mr. Dissanayake said he had visited the Malabe institute and he was satisfied with the facilities provided and also over the infrastructure.
“I have visited other medical colleges and have a fair knowledge of them,” the Higher Education Minister said.
Minister Dissanayake said that he had urged the GMOA officials to look at the issue through a broader view point without criticizing for the sake of doing so.
