3 years jail for 3 Lankans in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Three Sri Lanka nationals and a Malaysian were sentenced to three years jail by a Malaysian High Court on Monday after they pleaded guilty to abducting and wrongfully confining a teenage boy last year.
Justice Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah handed down the sentence on S. Selvakumar, 32, B. Jayanathan, 26, and J. Anthony, 22, all from Sri Lanka, and a Malaysian, T. Ramu, 22.
They were ordered to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest, which was last Oct 30.
The four men pleaded guilty after the prosecution offered an alternative charge under Section 365 of the Penal Code with abducting the teenager, from Trincomalee in Sri Lanka, with intent to cause him to be secretly and wrongfully confined.
They were charged with committing the offence near the Teratai Mewah Apartment, Jalan Langkawi, Setapak here at 8.50am on Oct 26 last year.
They were earlier charged under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, with abduction and wrongful confinement of the boy at B-08-40 Pangsapuri Mutiara Magna Kepong here between 8.50am on Oct 26, 2009 and 12.30am on Oct 31, 2009.
Lawyer M. Kavimani represented Selvakumar, Ramu and Anthony, while Jayanathan was represented by lawyer C. Natarajah.
