Schools open in HSZ

Several schools in the High Security Zones in Jaffna will be handed over to the students today, the Government said in a statement. The first of which will be Vasavilan Central College in the Palali High Security Zone.
This is one among several which will be handed over to the students today, (September 28) by Northern Province Governor G. A. Chandrasiri and Jaffna Security Force Commander Maj Gen Mahinda Hathurusinghe.
In 1990, after the HSZs were declared in Palali, the school was closed and temporarily functioned in Urumbiray in Jaffna. At the moment there are 1352 students in the school. After 20 years the school will be shifted to its exact location once again, he further said.
Schools are relocated under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa will visit Vasavilan Central College today.
Provincial Education Director P Vignasvaram said efforts are underway to completely reconstruct the buildings of the school by next year under an Asian Development Bank funded project. The ADB has allocated Rs.60 million towards the development of the school.
