Tokyo cement powers ‘EngEx 2010’

Having been a prominent feature in some of Sri Lanka’s biggest engineering feats, Tokyo Cement Company Lanka PLC recently undertook day sponsorship of the ‘EngEx 2010’ exhibition organized by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, to celebrate the faculty’s 60th anniversary. Yet another step in the long term collaboration between Tokyo Cement Company Lanka PLC and the faculty of engineering, the exhibition served as a catalyst for growth and ingenuity throughout the engineering field.

The long term aims of the partnership include improving the research and development capabilities in the Engineering department through working with industries that actually contribute to the development of engineering. Tokyo Cement contributes not only to the undergraduate research in the Civil Engineering department, but also provides cement required for such research. The department, in turn, actively seeks suggestions and guidance from the company regarding research needs and makes every effort to accommodate them in its research programs. The department of Civil Engineering has been able to successfully carry out its undergraduate research projects with the help of this program during the last three years. We are very thankful to Tokyo Cement Company Lanka PLC and look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.

The partnership between the two organizations does not end there. A company that has always believed in investing in the future, Tokyo Cement Company Lanka PLC has frequently funded the Faculty of Engineering with the aim of ensuring the constant enhancement of standards among the next generation of engineers. The company also was one of the main sponsors to the International Conference “Advances in Continuum Mechanics, Materials Science, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology” held at the University of Peradeniya in 2008.

With Sri Lanka in its post war phase of growth, organizations in every field of technology have to become more involved in educating and enhancing the opportunities available to the next generation. Through events like EngEx 2010, Tokyo Cement gives students access to companies that have the latest in technology and information, effectively enabling them to better manage their studies, their visions and be prepared for real world challenges when they finish their education. The company sees huge potential in the students of the faculty of Engineering look forward to a continued partnership.
