Special security arrangement for Presidential Election

The Police Department says that a special security arrangement will be in operation for the 2015 Presidential Election with a  contingent of 12,000 police officers bieng deployed to maintain law and order during the pre-election period.

A special operation center has been established at the Election Secretariat with a Deputy Inspector General of Police and a Superintendent of Police for the assistance of the Election Commissioner.
 
In addition, another 41 operation centers have been established covering 43 police divisions. An Assistant Inspector General of Police has also been appointed to cover each police station. Two police officers and a female police officer armed with T-56 weapons will be deployed to cover all polling booths on the Election Day.
 
A mobile service will be in operation to cover four polling booths. The Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana says that law and order will be strictly enforced against those who violates Election rules and regulations and against the persons who indulge in violent activities. He also said that up to now 49 complaints have been received by the Election Secretariat and 30 persons have been taken into custody in this connection.
 
He said that disciplinary action will also be taken against police superintendents and officers who do not strictly enforce the election rules and regulations.
 
Senior police officers have been requested to take action for removal of posters, cutouts and banners. 50 million rupees have been allocated for this purpose.
