One fisherman has drowned while another has been reported missing following the capsizing of two boats which had left for sea from Eravur and Muttur areas.

Police said that a 34-year-old fisherman was missing and that two others were rescued after their boat, which set out to sea from the Sampur beach in Muttur at around 4.30pm yesterday, capsized mid-sea due to rough weather.

Meanwhile another fishing boat which set sail from the Savikadai beach in Eravur had also capsized resulting in the death of a 19-year-old youth, who had fallen overboard.

The victim’s body was found after it had washed ashore, Eravur Police said.
