Chief Minister of the North Western Province Dayasiri Jayasekara said that he has decided to contest at the next General Election under the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) ticket.

He added that he will resign from his post as the Chief Minister and contest at the election, since he has an intention to rejoin in national-level politics.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of the Uva Province Harin Fernando told Ada Derana that he would resign from his post and contest at the General Election as well.

Fernando sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the Uva Provincial Council as the Government has failed to maintain a majority on 14 January. He received the highest number of preferential votes at the Uva Provincial Council election contesting for the Badulla District on the United National Party (UNP) ticket.
