Police hunt suspect who raped 72-year-old woman

Pallama Police have launched an investigation to arrest a suspect for allegedly raping a 72-year-old elderly woman, who had been living alone at her home in Wilpatha, Chilaw.

Police said that the 60-year-old suspect, also a resident of Wilpatha, had arrived at the victim’s home at around 9.00pm on Monday (13) night and knocked on the door.

When the elderly woman had opened the door, the suspect had proceeded to force himself on her and fled afterwards.

The victim is said to be a mother of one while her son had left home after marriage.

Pallama Police OIC Inspector W. Lakruwan is leading investigations to apprehend the suspect who has fled the area.
