The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) on Sunday (26) announced that the party has decided to extend its support to pass the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

JHU General Secretary and Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka made the observation at a press conference held in Colombo.

“Several constitutional changes have taken place as per the request of the JHU. Thus, we decided to back the Amendment,” the Minister said.

Earlier, Minister Ranawaka said that the JHU would take every possible step to defeat the draft bill on the 19th Amendment, if its reforms attempt to empower the Prime Ministerial post. He also described the Amendment as a ‘constitutional coup’.
