No nation in the world including the United States of America has a perfect record on human rights, US Secretary of State John Kerry said.

The observation was made at a press briefing held at the Taj Samudra hotel in Colombo, a short while ago.

“Power devolution is timely needed for Sri Lanka,”  he added, saying that the US will provide further assistant in this regard.

“The new generation (Sri Lankan) is experiencing the peace for the first time in their lives," he said.

Kerry also praised the “openness” of the new government in its efforts to boost democracy, human rights and ensure reconciliation with the country’s minority Tamils.

“One thing which struck me was the readiness of this government to open its doors, to open its minds to different ideas,” he said hailing “the enormous progress Sri Lanka has made in just a few months”.
