Train services around the country would likely come to a standstill from midnight today following a strike called by the Joint Trade Union Alliance (JTUA) of Railway Employees.

The strike will stage demanding the resolution of its salary anomalies, said Convener of the JTUA, Janaka Fernando.

“Though, we had many discussions with the Transport Ministry officials, the salary anomalies of railway employees remain unsettled. Thus, the JTUA decided to resort to the strike,” he added.

Meanwhile, a strike, which was staged by the paramedic staff at the Colombo National Hospital since last morning (29), has been called off, Joint Convener of the Joint Council of Nursing, Professions Supplementary to Medicine (PSM) and Paramedics, Saman Jayasekara, said

Jayasekara said that the strike was called off after a successful discussion held with the Secretary of the Health Ministry.
