Heavy rainfall and strong winds expected

The Department of Meteorology says that due to the convergence of wind flows the possibility for rain over the southern parts of the country and over the sea areas off the southern coast is still very high.
There is a risk of heavy rainfall and strong winds during showers, it said.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Central provinces. Showers can be expected at several places in the Northwestern province too.
Thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces during the period from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Southwest monsoonal winds can strengthen up to 50-60 kmph at times over the country (particularly over central hills) and Northwestern and Southeastern sea areas.
On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August and 07th of September in this year. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead tomorrow (29th) are Kandavalal, Nallur and Palaitivu about 12.12 noon.
