Court to announce verdict in Shyam murder trial in November

The verdict in the murder trial of Bambalapitiya businessman Mohamed Shyam, in which former DIG Vass Gunawardena is accused, will be announced on 27 November.


The decision was made when the case was taken up for hearing before the Colombo High Court today (12).


The ex-DIG was arrested after the body of the businessman with gunshot injuries was found in Dompe on 2013, May 26. The police have identified the deceased as 35-year-old, Mohammed Shyam, a resident of Wellawatte. 


Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Court that Ravindu Gunawardena, the son of the former DIG, had also involved in the murder. Ravindu Gunawardena was arrested on 2013, August 7.
