Major-General Sumith Manawadu hospitalized

Major-General Sumith Manawadu has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining an injury, a hospital official told Ada Derana on Wednesday (04).
The Major-General is undergoing a surgery at the moment, the official added. He had sustained life threatening injuries after a wooden beam suddenly collapsed on him at a construction site, it was reported.
When contacted by Ada Derana, Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera stated that the incident had occurred at around 6.40am this morning at a property belonging to the Major General on Old Kesbewa Road in Delkanda.
A wooden beam had collapsed on his head while he had been inspecting the construction work at the site. He was immediately rushed to the Army Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital, the spokesman said.
Sumith Manawadu was the officer who arrested former army commander and common candidate Sarath Fonseka after the Presidential Election 2010. Later he was appointed as the Deputy High Commissioner for Malaysia as well.
