May 6, 2016   02:28 pm

Seven students of the Kelaniya University who were arrested in connection with a ragging incident have been remanded till May 17 after being produced at the Mahara Magistrate’s Court.

Ada Derana reporter said that the students, including 4 females and 3 males, were arrested following a police complaint filed by a new female student who had alleged that she was subjected to severe ragging by the suspects.

Initially five students were arrested yesterday by Kiribathgoda Police, acting on the complaint, while the other two had surrendered to police.

It has been reported that the senior female students had prohibited first year female students from wearing long trousers to the university for a year and that certain students who had ignored this instruction were subject to ragging.
