Sri Lankan Minister of Justice and Buddhist Affairs Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has met with Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam to strengthen Thai-Sri Lankan relations.

Mr. Wijeyadasa came to Thailand to celebrate Vesak Day at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. He later visited Dr. Wissanu and said that Sri Lanka would like to host a religious event next year.

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Mr. Wijeyadasa for joining the event. The last time the two met was when the Sri Lankan minister traveled to the Kingdom to retrieve Buddha relics on loan from Sri Lanka.

The two have agreed to raise bilateral cooperation in tourism and Buddhist affairs. Sri Lanka has the potential to become a religious tourism destination for Thais, a large number of whom visit temples in the South Asian country each year.
