Met Department predicts heavy rainfall in parts of the country

The Department of meteorology says that showers or thunder showers will occur in the Western, North-Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle, Matara districts. Fairly heavy rainfall (around 75-100mm) are also likely at some places.
Showers or thunder showers may occur at few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces, particularly after 2.00 pm.
Strong winds at times can be expected over the country (particularly over Western slopes of the central hills) and surrounding sea area.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Showers or thunder showers may occur at a few places in the eastern sea areas.
Winds will be South-westerly and speed will be 40-50 kmph, the Met. Department said.
“The sea area extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and the sea area extending from Batticaloa to Hambantota via Pottuvil may be very rough at times as the wind speed can be increased up to 70kmph. Other sea areas around the island will be rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 60kmph at times.”
